What Happens During a Venous Duplex Ultrasound?
When you visit our office for a venous duplex ultrasound, a conductive gel will be applied to your skin over the area of concern. The ultrasound device will then be gentle moved around the area you and your doctor are worried about, as the device puts out high-frequency sound waves. The machine will then use these sound waves to create a visualization of your veins.
The process is painless, safe, and real-time accurate. This technology is similar to ultrasounds used for pregnancy exams, just applied to other areas of the body. The scans are also gentle enough that we can examine the veins throughout your body.

What Should I Wear
to My Appointment?
You don’t have to wear anything special to your first ultrasound appointment. Just wear loose, comfortable clothes. If you want to have your leg veins examined, you should wear either some type of shorts or have a pair of shorts to change into before your exam.
You should leave any jewelry at home, including watches and earrings.

Ultrasound appointments are pretty short. From the time you enter the office until the end of the ultrasound, it usually takes no more than 30 minutes. The consultation might take another 15 to 30 minutes depending on how busy the office is and on how many questions you have.
How Long Does it Take
to Get My Ultrasound Results?
For simple venous ultrasounds, your doctor will see the results immediately after the ultrasound.
However, if you get referred to a specialist for a double ultrasound, or Doppler ultrasound, your doctor will usually receive those results within two to three days.
